Exploring Motifs and Shapes Through Mixed Media Fiber Art

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of mixed media fiber art in this enriching and inspiring workshop, where we journey through nature's wonders and human-made marvels to create unique motifs, shapes, and designs. As we delve into the significance of motifs in art and design, you'll develop a keen understanding of principles such as value, scale, and, most importantly, color.

Under my guidance, you will learn how to transform your observations into captivating art pieces; simultaneously enriching your painting skills and expanding your artistic horizons. These instructive and invigorating journeys will enhance not only your understanding of motifs but also your ability to integrate and juxtapose the elements of nature and human-made creations within your fiber art compositions.

One of the course's key aspects is the development of your personalized idea book─a valuable resource for organizing and archiving your artistic vision. We will discuss its creation and utility, ensuring that your book successfully captures your observations and serves as a vital tool for future artistic endeavors.

As part of the course, a full day excursion to the Pyrenees National Park with stops at typical villages on route and lunch are included.

You will also have one free day to explore Pau with its historic C16th Chateaux, Place Royale & the Boulevard des Pyrénées. Alternatively you may wish to venture further afield to discover the Atlantic coast (approximately 1.30 hours drive) or even the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain (approximately 3 hours drive). Please note transport is not included on the free day. However, The Team at Clos Mirabel are happy to provide suggestions and help with logistics.

Join me in the stunning French countryside and embark on an unforgettable, enlightening artistic journey!

Please note: The maximum number of participants in the workshop is 15.

Over the course of this unique workshop, you will have the opportunity to utilize an array of techniques, such as:

1. Traditional Piecing: Uncover the nuanced art of assembling patchwork blocks, as you cut and sew fabric pieces you have painted to create stunning dynamic designs.

2. Fusing: Experiment with an innovative, quick, and straightforward approach to quilt composition. With no sewing involved, you can focus on the artistic aspects of merging fabric pieces and unleashing your creative potential.

3. Appli-Piecing: Discover the beautiful amalgamation of piecing and appliqué, as you combine these two techniques to craft intricate and complex patterns. (I will share an abbreviated version of this technique.)

4. Hand Quilting: Immerse yourself in the meditative experience of stitching by hand. This truly personalized approach lends a unique and irreplaceable touch to your creations, making each piece priceless in its own way. I am not a hand quilter, but if you are, I encourage you to consider this approach.

A few sewing machines will be available for those who prefer the efficiency of machine stitching. However, I strongly encourage fusing, hand quilting and appliqué - this will give you more freedom in regards to the shapes you can use.

The workshop will also include demonstrations, guided exercises, and personal consultations to ensure your overall learning experience is enriching and enjoyable. And there will be ample time for sightseeing and indulging in the laid-back French lifestyle!

Come, share your passion for fiber art with like-minded enthusiasts against the backdrop of France's serene landscapes, vivacious culture, and historical charm. This idyllic setting combined with heart-centered instruction is guaranteed to provide an unforgettable and rewarding experience you will cherish for a lifetime.
